Frankie Gavin will not feature in the England team which has been invited to World Cup Tournament to be held in Moscow between the 10th and 14th of December.
Gavin's well documented weight problems at 60kgs would, in an ideal world, have allowed him to move up to 64kgs.
However, BABN understands that the 64kg slot will be going to Bradley Saunders as AIBA have rejected ABAE's Chairman Paul King's plea to double up at that weight. England's team is therefore likely to be;
David Price 91kgs+ Tony Jefferies 81kgs James Degale 75kgs Bradley Saunders 64kgs
At this moment in time there is no boxer from Scotland at any weight having been asked to participate in this prestigious tournament.
This further development in Frankie Gavin's amateur boxing career could be the tipping point of the Birmingham stylist, and may see him put pen to paper with some promoter of the professional sport.
In a sense that would have been seen as an inevitable move, but Frankie's failure in Beijing to even compete will have taken considerable gloss of his cachet, much to his chagrin, but I suspect to the delight of potential suitors, who can now get his name for less in terms of signing on fees.
In a separate development in England, Terry Edwards has been confirmed by the BABA as the man to lead team GB through to the 2012 games in London. This is a reflection of his success over recent years not just with England but with team GB.
